Tuesday's Tips, Tricks & Treats

Since this is a New Year which equals New Beginnings, I thought it would be fun to start a New Tradition. I am Please to announced Tuesday's Tips, Tricks and Treats. The concept is simple, each Tuesday I will post a tip, trick or treat to share with my bloggin' friends.

Tuesday's Tip...

Silicone BBQ Brushes

This is the wave of the future people! This little guy has saved me hours of drying time. I use to always hate using my bristle brushes because it always seemed to take an army to get them clean. With the silicone brush, those days are over and the best part is you can pick up these bad boys at the dollar store!

What If

What if you were told that you only had two months to live. Would you spend the time correcting wrongs, do the most outrageous things that you never thought you would do, or simply hold onto your kids so tight they could barely breath?

That question is that simple: What would you do, if you only had two months to live?

Our friend and sorority sister Erin is facing this question. This is Erin's story.

As many of you know, Erin had not been feeling good since the birth of her little girl on Dec 1st, 2007. She had been in the hospital for over a week in January 2008, had a colonoscopy, 3 CAT scans, and an MRI. The doctors still could not tell what was go...ing on, only that they found ulcers on her colon and thought her colon was inflamed and causing a blockage.

After the CAT scan on Jan 24th, 2008, the doctor thought the scan showed minor improvement. They told her that her body just needed time to heal itself. However, the pain got so bad, that in less than a week, Erin was back in the hospital. This time she was told she needed to have surgery.

Unfortunately, the surgery showed what the doctors had ruled out. They informed her that she had advanced Stage IV colon cancer. The tumor was removed from her colon, but the cancer traveled into her abdominal wall.

Since that time, Erin has undergone continuous chemotherapy, radiation and a clinical trial. It has been an uphill battle, with Erin fighting, with the strength of an army, the whole way.

As of last week, January 2010, MD Anderson has told her there is nothing else they can do for her, and probably has about 2 months of quality life left. She is currently in the hospital, in the palliative care wing, of MDA.

Even though Erin has suffered more than any human should have to endure, she is not ready for her time on Earth to be over. She desperately wants to raise her beautiful children, who are now 4 (a boy, Leighton) and 2 (a girl, Finley).

She has another treatment option in the Brazynski Clinic, but needs to be much, much stronger before they will even think about taking her as a patient.

The support and prayers for Erin over the last two years, have been truly amazing. She needs them now more than ever! Miracles happen. Erin needs a miracle!

This group is to give Erin as much support, hope, love, and prayers, as possible. We will also be updating Erin's progress. Please feel free to post messages, share stories of other cancer survivors, or anything else you think could be useful to her fight against this disease.

Though I cannot erase Erin's pain, I can spread the message of prayer. Please share this post, or link to her prayer site on Facebook. I aks that you forget about sweating the small things in life today and join us in praying for Erin and her family. God, it is my prayer that you hear our call for a miracle and keep Erin tight in your arms as she continues her fight to kick cancer in the butt.

My Puter

For christmas Cookie was blessed with a new puter aka computer. Little Miss. Future Blogger, perhaps? I wonder what her blog topics will be. I can think of a couple...

How Not to Poop In Public
Sisterly Love: It's The Bomb

and what could be one of my favorite...

How to Obey your Mom

Of course we are working on the obeying part, but by the time she can fire up the internet and get to blogging she will have it down pat [fingers crossed]. Until then Cookie will enjoy her puter with the sweet sounds of Moo talking in the background.

There Is A Sucker Born Every Minute

Beauty does not have to cost you an arm and a leg! This may not be news to many but to this Rookie Mom I fall for all the hype. Smaller butt in 10 days, look ten years younger overnight, and my favorite one of all super white teeth in three minutes. It is as if the infomercials and the As Seen on TV displays at the drug stores are shouting, "Kari, call now in the next ten minutes and we will double your order or hey, you come over here you know you want to buy me."

But just like a Jenny Craig commercial that was me before and this is me now. 2010 has arrived and I now have a new prospective on my beauty needs. Less is more! It is time to start believeing in good old fashion (super cheap) home remedies.

I am now proud to say that I am using, Vaseline for my moisturizer and Preparation H to erase those unpleasant (sleepless nights) bags under my eyes. I figured that if the vaseline it is good enough for my kiddos bum then damn it why not slap it on my face. [Side note: I do not have hemorids, this one I have heard over the years. Just want to throw that one out there.]

I have officially been using the Vaseline for about a month now and I can say, Wow it works. It has really help with replenishing my dry skin. Give it a try. Just a $1.59 and you too can start erasing away the wrinkles. But beware it does do a number on your pillow cases.

Say Cheese

Remember the days when it took 3 to 5 days to have your pictures developed and the Polaroid camera was impressive technology. Well my friend those days are long gone and Cookie has even learned to appreciate the beauty of a camera phone.

Today while Cookie and The Hubby were playing in her outdoor cottage, she took her plastic phone turned it around, pointed it at her Daddy and said, "say cheese." I guess you can say we have her posing for the digital camera a little to often.

Yesterday, on the other hand she gave me one of her classic signature lines, [holding her finger up] "One second, the phone is ringing, Mama."

All I could do in the moment was point my digital camera at her and say, "Cookie say cheese!"
