Pregnant Woman Must Have for Summer

Now that I am 29 weeks pregnant the summer heat is doing a number on this Rookie Mom. It is amazing how quickly you forget about the TX heat, swollen ankles and late night bathroom runs during your first pregnancy just long enough to conceive again.

Granted it was only a couple of years ago that I was carrying Cookie during a TX summer months, I am having a hard time remembering it being this hot.

With both my pregnancies I have not experienced a lot of cravings that is until a month ago when the heat started to rise. I have renewed my love for...

and...

Good Old Fashion homemade Popsicles. To off set my excess love for M&M's I am using sugar free lemonade and kool-aide. Cookie and I are both enjoying them.

Eleven more weeks to go, can I make it? My fingers are crossed but don't be surprised if you see a pregnant woman with her mouth wide open underneath a Icee machine. Hormones pluse the TX heat can make you do crazy things...

Cheers to keeping cool and your hormones in check.

Thanks for the Invite Sarah Palin

Yesterday, we received the following invitation from Sarah Palin in the mail all the way from the great state of Alaska. My scanner is on vacation so luckily I was able to find the same invitation on the web as well.

So it got me thinking, I wondered what this message would have sounded like if she had actually written it and used some of her famous catchphrases from this years election. Maybe a little something like this...

Dear Joe Six Packs, Mavericks and Hockey Moms,

As Governor of the great state of Alaska with the hopes to one day have the bridge to no where, I am pleased to welcome you to the Alaska Travel Industry Association's website. You betcha, Alaska is different from every other destination in the world where we get er done. Every day offers an unforgettable memory: a mother moose and calf, glaciers and mountains, our unique Native cultures, our Russian legacy (which by the way I can see from my house) and Gold Rush days. Even lifelong Alaskans are amazed! And we have a wide range of accommodations and dining to suit every budget and we can ensure you that you won't be palling around with any terrorist here. Enjoy your online visit to Alaska, and I hope you'll come to visit the "Great Land" soon.

Sincerely,

Sarah Palin

Governor

Do you think it sounds a little bit more like her? Yep, I thought so too. I guess now is the time that I enter my disclaimer.

Disclaimer: This non-political Rookie Mom enjoyed being creative with this post and if you do not like it, well then just scoot along to another blog. Oh and by the way I do not have a Obama sticker on the back of my minivan.

Again, thank you Ms. Palin for the invite but we will have to regretfully decline this year.

Just a Friendly Reminder

Today is the day, if you haven't heard. Pass it along...

Dear PentopAnger,

I received your comment yesterday and thought I would actually take the time to respond to it. Normally I would not take the time to respond to such a comment but I felt that now would be as good as time as any to NOT justify why I choose to post the items I post but to clarify that if you do not agree with what I choose to write then it might be best to scoot along to a different blog.

I found your comment to be a little rough around the edges and would like to pose the question, if you choose to write such a statement to point out someones flaws then why do you choose to leave it with a non-reply e-mail address? Is it because you perish the thought that a Rookie Mom might find the time between diapers and all night awakenings to e-mail you back with a response.

I assume that by your tone that you may be a Democrat and that is okay because much to your surprise this Rookie Mom is a registered Democrat herself. However, just because a 4X6 voter registration card states that I am affiliated with one party that does not deny me of my choice to be open minded to both parties messages.

Throughout this entire campaign there has been talks about "change this" and "change that." But at the end of the day do really feel that your candidate could live up to those changes? Besides at the end of the day "change" doesn't start with one person who is elected to sit in the oval office, it starts with us the Americans and the choices we make each day to make "change" a reality.

Apparently this campaign has you a little uptight and I think maybe it would be best to refocus your anger for the next seven days and go out and do a good deed it might find you a little inspired and maybe a little happier.

I appreciate your comment because every voice should be heard. Therefore, I choose to post your comment and at the end of the day congratulate you on making your choice in this years trying election. I just wonder, have you even voted?

I just wanted to point out the flaw in the reasoning behind this story. If the woman conducting this "rather unscientific redistribution experiment" genuinely had an interest in making it scientific, she would have taken $2 from the tip and given it to the homeless man. This is closer to the tax the young waiter would pay under the Obama plan, and I'm sure he wouldn't have stormed away. I'd imagine anyone you tax 100% is going to be angry and Obama isn't proposing it. For illustrative purposes, lets say the owner of the restaurant makes $1,000,000. Even if we tax him 50%, he's still doing pretty well with $500,000. He may not like it, but if his democratically elected government says that's what his country needs from him, I'm sure he will put COUNTRY FIRST and understand. If the majority of the electorate believes health care is a right, the old and the poor should be taken care of, and democracy should be exported and protected at a cost of $400 billion a year, then the owner should see the extra tax as his patriotic duty. Jesus railed against doing nothing about poverty way more than he did against birth control so he can even see the efforts by the state to beef up the social safety net as his religious duty too. This is the kind of unselfish, COUNTRY FIRST thinking that will get us through the current crisis as opposed to the COUNTRY FIRST campaign signs you all sport that are really just a way to call those you disagree with godless, communist, terrorist sympathizers without seeming soooooo last century. And don't you put God first anyways? Finally, this was no experiment. She was spitefully punishing someone she disagreed with and thought her way to express it was so cute and clever she had to have an audience. Really it was as mean as stiffing your server because you don't like his tie would be in a non election year.
--your story ended up in my email via my family so i wanted to share my response with the source. Thanks for your time.

So, in conclusion I ask the blogger world to talk amongst yourself. If you would like to comment to Mr. / Mrs. PentopAnger then I say let your comments run wild. I think PentopAnger needs a little attention.

Oh and by the way, I think you should leave God out of this one, he is much busier watching over our troops, providing us with the strength and direction to get through these hard economic times and more importantly watching over the health of our family and friends than to worry about if I am not putting him first because of who I choose to vote for our the causes I choose to believe in. The big man knows that he always comes first in our home and that my family praises him each day for his blessing.

Besides the problems with the economy is not because someone didn't put God first it is because some corporate CEO's and our legislative leaders chose to think that they are "God" when they made decisions that have greatly impacted all of us.

Sincerely,

Redistribution of Wealth; Choice vs. Mandate

One of my sorority sisters did a little experiment yesterday and when I read it I just had to share it. It went a little something like this...

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read 'Vote Obama, I need the money.' I laughed. Once in the restaurant my server had on a 'Obama 08' tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference -- just imagine the coincidence. When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight. I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment, I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money that he had earned even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application

Courtney you are hilarious! Your shirt says it all. I guess we will know November 4th if your experiment of choice will become a mandated reality for the rest of us.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend!

Hey Joe

So who is this Joe they speak of? His identity is revealed...

I wonder if Kari the Rookie Mom would have been a better topic? We could have discussed the rising cost of diapers, milk and last but not least the amount of money we invest in day care. Nah, I would much rather stay out of it and not take the risk of the Today show knocking on my door at the crack of dawn.

Things That May You Say Hmmm...

This video is circulating like wildfire through out the great big world of cyberspace. So after about the 10th forward I received on it, I thought I would give it a look. In my opinion this video definitely falls in the category of things that make you say hmmm?

I guess you can say that hind sight is always 20/20. It makes you think if the CEO's who fluffed their numbers for personal gain are sitting on a beach somewhere and enjoying their Pina Colada.

After I watched this video it really made me wonder if these CEO's and the politicians who defend them understand the meaning of Karma?

I say let's move forward so that my daughter will not be paying $10 for a gallon milk one day.

M.O.M, Mayor of Multitasking

Now once again, I am not political by any means, but every once and a while I do enjoy the thumb raising, fist pumping speeches by our politicians. At times they are comical, and sometimes just down right silly but every once in a while one of their comments will stop and make me think.

Last night I tried, to stay up for the anticipated speeches by Giuliani and Palin. But geez don't they know ten o'clock is way past my bed time. So, this morning as the hubby and I awoke, I leaned over to say, "So how was it?" The Hubby just grind and said you need to see it for yourself.

After shuffling Cookie off to school, I sat down to enjoy my coffee, blogs and people.com. Of course all the headlines are raging with Palin this and Palin that.

So, I cut to the chase and immediately went to CNN to catch up on the speeches. I have to say, Mr. Giuliani I am impressed. You captured by attention for the entire 26 minutes but it was the last 2 that really made me think.

I have to say, I agree! How dare people question, Palin's (or any Mother who juggles a career and motherhood) capabilities to manage her family life with the duties of being a leader. After all she is a MOM and in my opinion MOM stands for the Mayor of Multitasking. Who is to say a MOM can't change a diaper and sign a foreign policy at the same time.

Now, I am no way saying that I am driving around in my minivan with a bumper sticker that reads, McCain 08 or Honk if you are A Obama Girl. I am saying, that I like the fact that Giuliani took the time to recognize that being a Mother is a blessing and our capabilities as Mother's shouldn't be discounted because of the high demands of a job!

With the elections around the corner, I am just blessed to be an American with the opportunity to be a working mother with the right to vote. I blessed with the opportunity to raise my child in this county with a wonderful supportive husband, and most importantly be given the opportunity to enjoy both Motherhood and a Career!

After all I am just a [Non Political] Rookie Mom learning how to juggle it all one diaper at time!

Who knows, maybe these two could be the next dream team, Daddy & Daugther 2024? They seem to be thinking about the idea...

They Said What?

Disclaimer: This Rookie Mom is NOT political and does not welcome Politics at her dinner table, but she does enjoy a good laugh and roll of the eyes at our Politician’s expense.

Over the past [way too many to mention] months our media has been [excessively] covering the Political debates. From Obama to Hillary to McCain, they have all managed to make themselves a household name with their kid like debates and constant message of “Change.”

Though I managed to limit my debate watching hours to less than one hour…okay maybe half an hour. I always find it amusing when I hear Politicians say the darndest things. The sayings that stop you dead in your tracks and make you ask yourself...Did they really say that?

Thanks to the Washington Post they have compiled a top 10 list of the darndest things Politicians have said:

10. "I don't care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day." Ray Nagin (2006)

9. “When I was in England I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn't like it and didn't inhale and never tried it again.” Bill Clinton (1992)

8. "Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." Donald Rumsfeld (2002)

7. "I think with a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, you can't play, you know, hide the salami, or whatever it's called." Howard Dean (2005)

6. "I'm a fairly wide guy.” Larry Craig (2007)

5.“Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." George W. Bush (2004)

4.“To those critics who are so pessimistic about our economy, I say: Don't be economic girlie men.” Arnold Schwarzenegger (2004)

3.“I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.” John Kerry (2004)

2.“I have a record in office, as well. And all Americans have seen that record. September the 4th, 2001, I stood in the ruins of the Twin Towers. It's a day I will never forget.” George W. Bush (2004)

1. "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Al Gore (1999)

Stay tune for more Rookie Mom not so political topics. :)
